About Saint Mary's University of Minnesota

Saint Mary's University of Minnesota is a private, comprehensive, coeducational university with an undergraduate campus in the city of Winona, located in the US state of Minnesota, serving as the county seat of Winona County, having a population estimated at a number of over 27 000 inhabitants, during the 2000 census.

Saint Mary's was established in 1912, as a men's college operated by the Winona Diocese, and was founded by Bishop Patrick Richard Heffron. It currently offers its students undergraduate educational programs at the Winona campus, but also offers graduate and professional programs, having branches, as well, in the Twin Cities, Rochester, Apple Valley and Oakdale, Minnesota, including various course delivery sites around Minnesota and Wisconsin, Jamaica, and Nairobi, Kenya.

Athletics

Saint Mary's athletic teams are nicknames the Cardinals and they compete in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC), in NCAA Division III, with 21 varsity sports teams. Their distinctive colors are red, white and navy.
